A significant ransomware attack on AIIMS Delhi—one of India’s leading medical institutions—occurred on November 23, 2022, when cybercriminals infected multiple hospital servers, encrypting critical systems and disrupting digital operations such as registrations, reporting, and billing. The attack forced AIIMS to shift essential processes to manual mode and drew investigation from Indian cybercrime agencies and CERT-In. Patient data, including sensitive health records, was believed to be at risk, with reports of databases being targeted for extortion and possible dark web exposure. This incident highlighted vulnerabilities in healthcare cybersecurity and underscored the importance of robust data protection.
